Hill House

Laura Cizdyn Interiors were instructed to breathe a new lease of life into this family home. We worked predominantly on redesigning the living room, as well as the downstairs cloakroom with some additions to the pantry.

Our brief was to create a cosy and comfortable space where frequent guests could gather together and make the most of the living room’s stunning Lake District views.  Storage was also required for the family’s extensive collection of books.

We designed a bespoke bookcase wall, working with local craftsmen to execute the vision to perfection. A rolling library ladder adds character and playfulness as well as functionality to access the highest shelves. We carried then use of timber through across the ceiling and onto the floor which envelops the room with warmth and character. Textured wall coverings bring a softness, as do bespoke window treatments.

We also conceived a window seat area, perfectly placed to soak up the views, providing both a cosy reading corner and additional seating for guests. Discreet storage was built beneath to tidy away children’s toys.

The whole space is brought together with earthy tones and rich textures, inspired by the property’s surroundings, with contemporary furnishings and natural materials making the space feel homely and inviting.

We also gave the space and cloakroom an update; removing the existing bath to provide much needed storage space and building in new floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. We wanted the room to have impact and opted for richer tones and textures to create a moody space with luxury finishes fit for a boutique hotel!

During the process, we uncovered the property’s Victorian tiled floor hiding beneath the previous flooring, so we tweaked our scheme to accommodate this stunning original feature.

The client is an avid foodie, so we incorporated practical open shelving in the pantry area to display canisters and jars for preserves and storage containers for ingredients. The use of raw, live edged timbers adds character and celebrates the natural materials that we love!
